Westminster,
on my returning days
English version by NGUYỄN HỮU LÝ
Bubbling over with joy on my return to visit Westminster
Inwardly happy on my return to visit Westminster
I had a walk along the Bolsa street yellowing with numberless flags
The city of April was beautifying by long flowing dresses
These Vietnamese long dresses have flown on the foreign land
In my innermost feelings of cheerfulness and sadness, I begged for forgetting everything
At the end of a grievous April, I penned a poem
I forgot myself about all of my fading away fate
My darling's flowing gown felt regret at her olden days and months
Oh, my love! Did you ever remember your former departure moment?
You brought your Fatherland with you, while crossing the sea
As always poems showed an extreme nostalgia towards the native land
On my return here, I had a chance meeting all friends of mine in days of your
During so many years, we were placed together in confinement
Enmities among humankind that cut off the close ties of consanguinity
Just the sufficient count for me, I gave up the native land to cross the river
I believed that it seemed to be a homeland
In our opinion, the misleading days led us astray
These days have gone on for previous years
Saigon shadowed by flag flyings that discomposed our heart
You had trustingly emotional ties towards the nation
So at first go-off, I entertained you to the feelings of admiration and esteem
At the time I just arrived in America
Staring at the flag flying, my tears flowed freely down
On my arrival, the city had already existed your silhouette
The Bolsa street, full of my footprints,
Was animated by voices, laughters of passers-by's toeing and froing
The home country's breath of life warmed up my transitional period of humiliation and honors
