Reminiscence of my return
English version by NGUYEN HUU LY
I turned and went back home
Bringing with me a stunted heart, a terribly sad and completely empty mind
All streets and guilds have already had red-tinted flags
The old homeland was writhing at the round of gross injustice
I returned to fluctuating rivers and mountains full of hardships
From that dispersion which turned the depth of my heart upside down
Melancholic innermost feelings always haunted my mind
When could I wash out the April feud?
I returned in cyclonal winds and blinding dusts
It seemed that I even felt embittered by the imprisonment of old
I have gone astray in morning shine and evening rain
I let slip good chances in whitening my hair
I returned to hearken shrieks of pair
The Seven Mountains tinted its suffering color
Where did the Western Highlands run away?
On the desperately bloody road which was torn to shreds
I return and felt ashamed of myself towards Heaven and Earth
There was no more the soldier's fighting spirit in his powerful time fearless of nobody
To blow his head in silence along the road
Despite violent storms harrying the home country
I dazedly contemplated with longing griefs the quiet river current
My life was similar to the drifting and bobbing tide
Poor man! My homeland looked lost!
Distant shores and desolate wharfs grieved about their ancient traces
