On Mother's Day
English version by NGUYEN HUU LY
I burst into tears easily as a baby
When someone raises his modulating voice on the telephone
Reading out to me interesting passages
With the author's compliments conferred to his mother, dear Mom!
On Mother's Day, they feel so happy, mother and son
The roses are fastened and reddened the mother's bright robe
Many more besides, letters, greeting cards, and smilings
Glances of eyes, and embracements of loving
In that plight, I bow down speechlessly
My eyes are painful, my heart is biter, oh dear Mom!
Many times my mourning seems for me the rising sea
Musical scales follow in every melancholic flow of tides
In response to the lonesome echo of rippling wave
That laps scarcely against the cool rocky seashore
A desolate picture rises in my mind since my motherless living
And I conceal my boredom in my poetry
In humankind, I am myself a dumb
Who comes to grief over difficulties in every step of my existence
I am not full-grown enough with so numberless strangenesses
I don't know well that life has the same meaning with throes
It has ebbs and flows, and bitterness in the stage
Nobody can hold me up, except you in my life
On Mother's Day, my eyes are suffused with tears
I love you very much, my dear Mom!
In a distant country, I am wandering place to place
So that your wintry grave is short of incense and smoke
Other's mothers have a lot of interesting essays
What can I write to Mom, right here?
I have no talent for you with good literary work
But I have only an unfeigned soul
To read for you stirring spoken words...
With torrents of tears, I sob my heart out as a baby, dear Mom!
Even many years, I could not write completely a sole statement:
That I love you, and I love you ardently!
Oh my dear Mom, I miss you very much!
