The White Flower
English Version By NGUYEN HUU LY
Anyone having a red flower fastened on his dress feels himself merry
My dress pinned with a white flower grieves about my part
Oh, Mother! For more than thirty years
How many times that flower has felt self-pity and resentment vis--vis another one
Since Mother departed away from this world
I have suffered agonies, because of my motherless lot
I opened my arms to pluck up my reverie, but it was drifting along
In case of my slip down by a false step, nobody helps me stand up
A flower does not make a spring
A moon cannot have the makings of a moonlit night
For many periods of May
Looking at the person with a red flower, I silently shed tear
Who has created this heart-rending spectacle, dear Mother!
Yin and yang, two different plights, are really two places in seperation
In this world, your daughter has grievously mourned you over
In my heart's core, I incense a joss-stick hore
Its smoke, as flimsy as the dew, spreads lightly
Seeing that desolate white flower
Oh, Mother! Both of my brown eyes are brimming with tears.
