Cành hoa trắng
Vu Lan
NGỌC AN
Mười bốn năm Mẹ về cõi Phật
Mộ phần lạnh lẽo giữa hoang sơ
Những đêm cô tịch trăng huyền ảo
Con nhớ vô cùng... thuở ấu thơ!
Ngày xưa mỗi độ chớm thu sang
Ngọn gió heo may rụng lá vàng
Tháng bảy, ngày rằm mùa xá tội
Những linh hồn lạc giữa trần gian...
Mẹ dắt con, nghiêm trang áo trắng
Đường lên chùa cũ dấu rêu mòn
Chấp tay trước Phật con cầu nguyện
Soi sáng tâm hồn kẻ sắt son!
Trên ngực áo con một đóa hồng
Mẹ cười, Mẹ hỏi: có vui không?
Mỗi năm vào dịp Vu Lan hội
Mẹ sẽ cho con một đóa hồng...
Thế rồi... mười bốn mùa mưa nắng
Biền biệt bao trăng chết cõi lòng
Bóng Mẹ hiền trần gian khuất dạng
Hoa hồng đâu nữa... để mà mong...
Tháng bảy Vu Lan lại đến rồi
Áo cài hoa trắng... đời mồ côi
Con buồn nhớ Mẹ lòng ray rứt
Thương kiếp bơ vơ giữa cuộc đời!
A white flower

English version by NGUYEN HUU LY
Mother departed to the Buddhist world fourteen years ago
Her frozen grave endured in plain wilderness
In solitary nights under the mysterious moonlight
I remember ever so much... my early life!
In olden times, when autumn was about to approach
Golden fallen leaves were dropping off by its windy blowing
The full-moon day of the seventh lunar month in the Pardon season
Granted to spirits astray in this earth...
Seriously in white dress, Mother led me to Pagoda
Along the former road with green-missy and worn-away traces
I joined my hands in prayers before the Buddha
To illuminate to steadfast people's souls!
A rosebud was fastening on my chested robe
Mother smiled and asked me: Are you really pleased?
Every year on the occasion of Vulan festival
Mother'll give me a rosebud...
And then... since fourteen seasons of rain and shine
I have spent so many wandering months frightening to death in my mind
My kind Mother's silhouette has passed out of sight in this world
No more rosebud... to wait for...
The Vulan festival in the seventh lunar month is already coming
Fastening a white rose in my robe-my motherless life
I sorrowfully remember Mother with my prickings of conscience
To pity for the forsaken destiny in the very middle of my existence!
