Bài Khánh Vân
LAN ĐÀM
Ta đưa người lên đồi
Mây thành dăng chất ngất
Gió khô lệ, mặn môi
Lũng hoa vàng phơ phất
Người đi ngày chưa đầy
Bước chân chừng rất nặng
Sầu bàng bạc cỏ cây
Lối mòn vương chút nắng
Ta theo xe ngậm ngùi
Hàng thông già nghiêng ngả
Năm mươi đời còn vui
Người về sao vội vã
Lời nào chưa trối trăn
Đáy huyệt buôn cô tịch
Khóc người, kinh ăn năn
Thân rồi tàn đất trích
Màu chiều đã bao la
Thôi xin người yên ngủ
Mai núi cách, sông xa
Xót đau ân tình cũ
After the funeral
Translated by PHẠM TRỌNG LỆ
I follow your footsteps up the hill
Clouds cluster and roll
Winds dry my eyes, lips taste salty
Valley blossoms are fluttering gold
You depart before the day is full
Your steps are heavy
Sadness covers grass and trees
The well-troden path still reflects lingering sunglow
My griefs gnaw as I follow the hearse
The old pines are staggering
Life at fifty still has plenty of joy
Then why did you part in such a haste?
You could not say the last words
The depth of the tomb seems sad and lonely
I cried for you, mumbling the Koans
This life may end in this exile land
Evening hue is spreading
Let sleep calm your sweet, silent rest
Tomorrow we will be separated by mountains
and rivers
My heart grieves for our love of yore
