Mother’s Lulling Words
English Version By NGUYEN HUU LY
I grew up by Mother’s lulling words
Such sad fold ballads since the existence of my homeland
Mother’s lullabies rocking heroic examples
Teach me to grow up in setting out
I have grown up by eating rice, potatoes, corn, and manioc as meal
By a bowl of sweet gourd soup in full-compassion
Favors by “hot ginger and salty salt”
Despite hundreds of years in heaven stems’ fulling duty
I had a livelihood beside areca palm rows and banana bushes
The river current silted with alluvial layers
To produce fruit trees feeding me in my infancy
I have never forgotten the separation moment
There was then one day when
My homeland had been flared up with raising war flames
I departed and on the way throughout troubled places
As a mother’s son among the proudest youngsters
I engaged in battlefield without worrying about hardship
Mother had many sons who resisted against invaders
And they never knew how to surrender in case of dangers
That will was inspired by mother’s advice in days of old
That recommended me before the departure time
Mother’s lulling words in my childhood
Followed after my existence
And I still eternally kept them for myself
And from that time, going round the globe
I always bore on my forefather’s courageous lineage
